I’m Andrew Chirch. Recently while riding on a crowded subway, I had an idea – a vision, actually, that I instantly knew was supposed to be shared.
It’s called 99 and it’s a little refresher you can indulge in just once, or as a regular practice.
The vision I had was of an epic journey – with you as the central character –completing a series of steps that make up a quest… or a pilgrimage.
‘What quest’…. You ask?
Well, as I’m in training to be an Interfaith Chaplain, one of my loves is world religions.
In Islam, there is a teaching that there are at least 99 names for the divine – for Allah – and each one of those names has a special quality. This message – this powerful download I received – was to spend 9 minutes exploring each of these 99 attributes…. It isn’t about Islam…. Rather, that’s where the journey begins. Each episode, we’ll take brief moment to center ourselves – away from the distractions of the world, then we’ll explore the day’s theme and invite you to check in with whatever guides you. Each episode is both a journey and a step in a larger pilgrimage. Complete one or all 99 – either way, this is 9 minutes just for you.
You’re the only one who can answer this question, – but are you living the life you want to live? If so, how? And if not, how to come a little closer to the mark?
We’ll share the opportunity each time to meet those questions – and we may or may not have answers – but answers aren’t always the point. Much like going to the gym to exercise your body, this is a regular workout for the mind or spirit.
I want to be clear… I am not Muslim, nor am I qualified to teach you what Islam is all about. I simply have a deep respect for this tradition and its teachings have inspired this project. If you want to learn more about Islam, you could reach out to your local mosque, ask your friends, or sign up for a class.
So for now, please forgive me for cherry-picking from this faith tradition, and if you’re inclined, join me for nine minutes to invest in the one thing you have to share with the world: you.
